Bank-Hill Erosion
The Problem
Bank or hill erosion are often created during the construction process or by changes to the landscape that causes water to flow in areas or at levels not seen in the past. This type of erosion is exasperated by heavy rains when slopes are greater than 33% and can wreak havoc on property owners. If not corrected, it will continue causing more damage and making it more expensive to fix in the end. This type of erosion is also critical to control to protect our streams, rivers, and lakes. By controlling the water flow, we can help ensure that debris, silt, and harmful materials stay out of Michigan’s beautiful watershed.
Solutions – Three Key Areas
- Soil Retention
-
- Temporary – In instances where the soil needs controlling during the construction process, we can provide quick barrier solutions. These solutions include fencing, straw wattles, and blankets.
- Permanent – When seeking a more permanent fix, we have solutions ranging from retaining walls, riprap-gabions, terracing, to geotextiles.
-
- Vegetation
-
- Revegetation – Instances where the previous vegetation has been removed, Rockwell Earthworks will develop a plan to reestablish vegetation based on the most critical elements identified in our three-prong approach utilizing buffer strips and appropriate planting plants.
- If the landscape includes turf and lawn installations, we have the ability, through our trusted partners, to hydroseed your property. When paired with our other turf management services, providing an excellent solution will give you that beautiful lawn you envisioned.

- Water Management
-
- Controlling run-off with check dams, various drains, and grading are crucial considerations when choosing a solution.
